Mining and oil company BHP Billiton has approved the development of its 190MW Yarnima Power Station in Pilbara, Australia.

The $597m power station will aid in securing power supply for its Western Australia Iron Ore mining operations in the same region.

BHP Billiton will build, own and operate the combined cycle gas turbine power station, which will replace supply from the existing Newman Power Station.

The facility will include gas turbines equipped with heat recovery steam generators to capture waste heat for the generation of additional power.

Power supply from this project will be available in the first half of 2014.
