Bladt Industries and EEW Special Pipe Constructions have signed a contract for the supply of foundations for the Cape Wind offshore wind farm in the US.

As per the contract, Bladt Industries and EEW Special Pipe Constructions will manufacture a total of 101 monopiles and transition pieces for the 468MW offshore wind farm.

EEW Special Pipe Constructions will manufacture monopoles at its facilities in Rostock, Germany, while Bladt Industries will manufacture transition pieces at its facilities in Aalborg, Denmark. Manufacturing of the equipment will begin in January 2015.

Bladt Industries division manager Morten Mork said, "We will contribute with our expertise within the field and we know that our many years of experience will be valuable for this project."

The Cape Wind offshore wind farm will be located off the north-east coast, 20km offshore of Nantucket at Horseshoe Shoal in the Nantucket Sound.

The project construction is being carried out in four distinct phases including turbine manufacturing, upland (land) cable, offshore electric cabling and park construction. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2016.

In December 2013, Cape Wind was awarded a contract to Siemens for the supply of 3.6MW offshore wind turbines and an offshore electric service platform. Siemens will also provide services for the first 15 years of commercial operations of the wind farm.

In July 2013, Cape Wind was awarded a $15m contract to Lawrence-Lynch to provide the upland construction work required to bury Cape Wind’s electric cables.
