Fortum has restarted both units of the Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland following conclusion of annual maintenance outages.

All of the planned maintenance work at Unit One was completed on schedule. However, the planned 22-day outage period was extended by around two days due to a valve malfunction during start-up.

Fortum was able to complete all the work for Unit Two within a period of 17 days, which was one day ahead of schedule.

Both the units were refuelled and Fortum installed high-pressure safety injection pump motors.

In addition, a modernised high-pressure turbine was installed at Unit One, while two turbine moisture separators were replaced at Unit Two.

“In our daily operation we pay attention to them, and especially during annual outage when the number of employees and work to be done is multiplied in comparison with normal operation.

“A great step forward was taken in managing the premises and work sites. This is one of the contributing factors why no injury related loss of workdays occurred during this annual outage.”

Around 700 external employees were deployed to conduct the outage.
