In addition to this, the end-to-end hardware and software platform also allows utilities to improve Volt-VAR Optimization (VVO) initiatives for energy efficiency and peak demand reduction, providing enhanced power quality.

Gridco said that its new solution, which is comprised of in-line power regulators, distributed grid controllers (DGCs) and grid management and analytics platform (GMAP), will provide advanced power flow control throughout the distribution system for electric utilities.

In-Line Power Regulators combine series-connected voltage control, shunt-connected current control, embedded sensing, and control logic to simultaneously provide voltage regulation, VAR compensation, harmonic compensation, power monitoring and more.

DGCs provide coordination and control, data logging, local analytics, data networking, and communications through secure DNP 3.0 and secure web services, while GMAP offers remote monitoring and control, data collection, actionable data analytics, feeder optimisation, and seamless integration with SCADA, DMS and VVO applications.

The company will offer an initial product featuring single-phase 50kVA IPRs, available in both pole- and pad-mounted configurations, that is particularly suitable for harsh outdoor environments.

"The IPRs can either operate autonomously or be integrated within a utility’s existing SCADA/DMS system."

With a lifespan of 25 years, the IPRs can either operate autonomously or be integrated within a utility’s existing SCADA/DMS system.

The IPRs will effectively integrate utility- and residential-scale distributed generation and enhance centralised CVR/VVO approaches to enable energy and demand management savings, the company claims.

Gridco Systems CEO Naimish Patel said utilities are required to maintain control and visibility into the distribution grid, while reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

"The Gridco Systems emPower Solution is a major step forward in the industry’s progress toward a more agile grid.

"Based on years of research and development, our solution offers a comprehensive suite of power electronics, distributed controls and back-office software that provide distribution utilities with fine-grained control of power flow from sub-station to load," said Patel.
