Halifax American Energy (HAE) is to purchase 4MW of electricity from the planned $80m Concord Steam biomass plant in the US.
Halifax, an exclusive marketing agent in New England for South Jersey Energy, emerged the winner in a competitive bid to buy the electricity.
A total of 13MW has been sold to other electric utilities as the plant was required to sell the entire power output to secure funding.
Last month, the New Hampshire Executive Council and the Concord City Council signed an agreement to purchase electricity from the 17MW plant for a period of ten years through South Jersey Energy.
Concord Steam Corporation plans to begin construction of the plant by 31 December 2011.
