Swiss company Meyer Burger Technology has signed a $21.9m contract to supply technologies and equipment for the production of high-quality solar wafers and highly efficient solar cells to a Chinese tier one solar supplier.
The equipment will include the modern diamond wire saws of the DW288 Series III and the upgraded cell technology Meyer Burger passivated emitter rear cell (MB PERC) on the system platform MAiA 2.1. As a result, production capacity will be significantly raised, as well as cell-efficiency.
Delivery of the equipment is expected to commence in October this year, while the Chinese customer intends to begin production in Q1, 2017.
In addition to the solar industry, the DW288 can also be used in the sapphire industry and Meyer Burger Technology has signed a contract for the supply of diamond wire saws with another Chinese customer.
This company works with semiconductor technologies and focuses primarily on photovoltaics for the solar industry.
