ORIX Corporation has begun operations at the new Agatsuma woodchip biomass power plant in Gunma Prefecture, Japan.

The plant has a generation capacity of 13,600 kW, with a planned annual power transmission of 85 million kWh.

The electricity generated is enough to meet the power needs of 24,000 households.

The use of biomass feedstock helps in reducing CO2 emissions, through clean power generation with the use of thermal recyclingtechnology.

The plant will be Japan’s third-largest woodchip-fired thermal power station in terms of power generation capacity, ORIX said.
