Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has secured a contract to build a windfarm in Uruguay for Rafisa.

Rafisa, trustee of the Financiero Arias Trust, backed and managed by Uruguay’s state utility, UTE, has contracted Gamesa for a 70MW wind power generating facility.

Under the contract, Gamesa will supply, install and commission 35 units of its G114-2.0 MW turbines at the Colonia Arias windfarm in the department of Flores.

Delivery of turbines is scheduled for December, with plans to commission in the second quarter of 2017.

Gamesa will also take responsibility of civil works and electrical installations needed to setup and operate the windfarm.

In addition, the company will operate and maintain the facility for its first 15 years in operation.

It is the second windfarm to be built by Gamesa under the scope of projects being developed by UTE.

Last year, Gamesa agreed to develop the 70MW Valentines windfarm, which will be commissioned during the second half of this year.

With the latest order, Gamesa has secured contracts and agreements for supply of another 190MW in the country.

To date, the company installed and maintains 200MW in Uruguay.

In addition to Uruguay, Gamesa has installed around 4,000MW in other Latin American countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Argentina and Costa Rica.

In a separate development, Gamesa has won 12MW of solar orders in India.

The company will be responsible for engineering and design, supply of inverters, erection and commissioning of the 12MW photovoltaic solar plants, which will come online by the first quarter of this year.
