Toshiba is participating in a seven-company consortium that plans to construct and operate a solar photovoltaic plant in Japan.

The consortium headed by Mitsui Chemicals will conduct a feasibility study for a combined solar and wind power plant in Tahara, Japan, aiming to begin construction in 2012.

Toshiba will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the solar photovoltaic plant.

The 50MW photovoltaic and 6MW wind power generation plant will be set up with an investment of 18bn yen ($234m), following the feasibility study.
