Danish wind turbine company Vestas’ wholly-owned subsidiary UpWind Solutions has signed a multi-site service contract with US-based Berkshire Hathaway Energy and its subsidiaries MidAmerican Energy and PacifiCorp.
Under the terms of the deal, UpWind Solutions will be responsible for delivering maintenance services for 1.75 gigawatts (GW) of GE, 1.5 S, and SLE turbines at 15 sites across the US states of Wyoming, Oregon, and Iowa.
MidAmerican Energy Renewable Energy’s vice-president Mike Gehringer said: "MidAmerican Energy continues to expand our wind generation in Iowa and we look forward to working with UpWind Solutions as a valued partner in optimising our fleet’s performance."
In December last year, UpWind Solutions was taken over by Vestas to provide customers with a fleetwide service provider across a wide range of turbine models.
UpWind Solutions’ president Peter Wells said: "The wind-turbine service industry is transforming and we are proud to lead from the front of that transformation as we set a new standard for service excellence, not limited by the traditional definitions of OEM versus ISP, focussing on what and how we deliver exceptional results, rather than who.
"We are proud to partner with MidAmerican Energy and PacifiCorp to extract the full lifetime value of their turbines."
