Renewable energy developer RES, along with its partners Mirova and Octopus Renewables, have inaugurated the 85.8MW Rödene wind farm in the Alingsås municipality in Västra Götaland county, Sweden.

The wind farm has been developed and will be operated by RES and is owned by Mirova, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers and Octopus Renewables.

It is powered by 13 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines and can generate enough power for 40,000 households in the country while offsetting 230,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

RES Nordics CEO Matilda Afzelius stated: “The inauguration of Rödene Wind Farm marks an important milestone for the energy mix in Sweden. It is also a testament to the dedication and collaboration that we have had with the local communities as well as our long-time partners Mirova and Octopus Renewables.

“Rödene Wind Farm is situated close to Alingsås city and has opened up and created accessibility for the local community. Today, we see it being used for mountain biking, mushroom picking, hiking and many more outdoor activities as well as producing renewable energy into the system.”

Mirova investment director Olena Reznik stated: “We are delighted to celebrate Rödene’s inauguration as it is a flagship project for the Alingsås community and for RES. It is furthermore remarkable as it is one of the first projects to be built using the state-of-the-art wind platform developed by Siemens.

“All parties have done a great job to make Rödene a success and to make another step towards the decarbonisation of the Alingsas area.”

Mirova acquired the wind farm from RES in April 2020.

RES had built the project under an engineering, procurement and construction contract and had also agreed to provide asset management services to the project.

RES and Mirova have been partners for some years. This was the third project that the company had sold to Mirova following the Våsberget project in 2015 and the Vardafjellet project in 2018.

Octopus Renewables, a subsidiary of Octopus Group, acquired a 49% stake in the project from Mirova in May 2021.
