Located in the German North Sea, the Nordergründe offshore wind farm began operations in 2017 and comprises 18 turbines. It produces enough renewable electricity to power around 90,000 households.

The site has been part of Skyborn’s portfolio since the early development phase, with the company acting as construction manager and remaining involved throughout its operation.

With this transaction, Skyborn assumes full responsibility for operating and managing Nordergründe as the wind farm enters a new phase that requires increased operational focus.

The company plans to bring more core operational functions in-house, allowing for more direct management and investment decisions in line with its infrastructure platform approach.

It also aims to internalise key operational functions for increased flexibility and efficiency.

Skyborn Renewables CEO Patrick Lammers said: “This transaction is fully aligned with our strategy to be a leading offshore wind infrastructure platform – developing, building, owning and operating assets over the long term.

“Taking full ownership of Nordergründe allows us to apply our integrated approach to optimise performance and create long-term value.

“Following the successful turnaround of Yunlin and the progress of Gennaker, Nordergründe marks our next step – demonstrating our ability not only to deliver projects but to enhance and operate them sustainably over time.”

Earlier in June, Skyborn entered into a long-term integrated service agreement with Wind Multiplikator to support the ongoing operation and maintenance of Nordergründe.

The deal consolidates the project’s operations under a single management structure, helping to improve efficiency and support ongoing performance.

Skyborn sees Nordergründe as a key milestone in its strategy to expand its capabilities across the full offshore wind project life cycle, following recent progress at Yunlin in Taiwan and Gennaker in Germany.

Earlier this month, the company and Amazon signed a 600MW power purchase agreement for electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
