The latest deal builds on an earlier agreement between the two companies for the 495MW Formosa 4 offshore wind project, signed in late 2025.
With the addition of Formosa 6, Star Trade has committed to purchasing more than 10% of the combined capacity from both offshore wind projects.
Formosa 6, situated approximately 35km off the coast of Xianxi Township in Changhua County, is SRE’s first offshore wind development in central Taiwan. The site spans around 84km².
The project received 800MW of capacity in Taiwan’s Phase 3-2 Offshore Wind Zonal Development auction, which was awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in August 2024.
Once operational, Formosa 6 is expected to generate enough electricity to supply roughly 860,000 households each year.
The deal comes as governments intensify their focus on energy security in response to a fast-changing global political and economic environment.
SRE chairperson Lucas Lin said: “With Formosa 4’s capacity fully subscribed late last year, we are pleased to see Formosa 6 reach an important milestone with this CPPA. Backed by steadfast shareholder support, SRE has remained committed to developing, constructing and operating offshore wind farms in Taiwan for many years.
“That long-term commitment extends beyond our own sustainability ambitions. We work to help green power drive sustainable development by bringing together green electricity supply and market demand.
“Through our expanded partnership with Star Trade, we can help more businesses in Taiwan access the green electricity they need while supporting the country’s energy transition.”
