Global technology company Voith Hydro has secured a contract to equip the Snowy 2.0 pumped storage power station in Australia. As part of the Voith Group, Voith Hydro offers products and services that cover the entire life cycle and all major components for large and small hydro plants.
Voith will supply the electrical and mechanical components for the Australian pumped storage power plant. The plant is reported to be one of the largest of its kind in the world and is expected to support Australia’s renewable energy future.

It will connect the two existing Tantangara and Talbingo dams through underground tunnels and an underground power station with pumping and generating capacity.
The order includes the supply of six reversible pump turbines, six motor generators, the auxiliary systems and the complete power plant automation.
With the installation of six reversible pump turbines, Snowy 2.0 will be able to generate 2,000MW of renewable energy and will have the capacity to support the national electricity market with 175 hours of continuous large-scale storage.
Additionally, the project is expected to contribute towards grid stabilisation as well as provide a platform for expansion of power generation from renewable energy sources. The first power from the Snowy 2.0 plant is expected as early as 2024.
