German maritime services company Windward Offshore has received the Windward Hamburg, the fourth commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) in its newbuilding programme with shipbuilder VARD.
With this delivery, the company now operates a full fleet of four purpose-designed vessels, which will underpin its construction, commissioning and ongoing operation services for offshore wind projects.

The new vessel joins the Windward Paris, Windward Athens and Windward Munich, completing the planned series and enhancing Windward Offshore’s ability to provide support across a range of offshore wind activities.
The company’s expanded fleet will play a key role in delivering modern and adaptable assets for the offshore wind sector.
The Windward Hamburg is built on the VARD 4 19 platform, measures 87.5m in length and 19.5m in width, and provides accommodation for up to 120 personnel.
The vessel shares several features with its sister ships, such as a motion-compensated gangway with an integrated elevator, a height-adjustable boat landing system and an electric motion-compensated crane.
Both the Windward Hamburg and Windward Munich are equipped with helidecks, offering additional options for personnel transfer between the vessel and offshore wind turbines.
The vessel also incorporates a battery-hybrid propulsion system designed for lower emissions and is capable of future operation using green methanol.

Windward Offshore reports that the Windward Athens and Windward Paris are already in service, having transferred more than 14,000 people using their gangways.
The Windward Munich, which was delivered in July, is currently en route to Hamburg for its naming ceremony and will begin its first charter immediately afterwards.
