Swiss energy company Alpiq has agreed to acquire a 90% stake in Harmony Energy, a developer and operator of battery energy storage systems (BESS) with projects across Europe.
The move is expected to strengthen Alpiq’s flexibility offerings and expand its battery storage project pipeline in key European markets including the UK, Germany, France and Poland.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition brings approximately 400MW of assets under construction into Alpiq’s portfolio, including a UK project scheduled to be connected to the grid in the third quarter of 2026.
Alpiq’s expanded pipeline through Harmony Energy is intended to support the company’s aim of building and operating a multi-gigawatt BESS portfolio across Europe in the coming years.
Alpiq CEO Antje Kanngiesser said: “By combining Alpiq’s strength in flexible power generation and energy management with Harmony Energy’s excellent development capabilities and project pipeline, we are scaling up in becoming a leading provider of flexibility solutions in Europe.”
The companies previously partnered on the sale of two BESS projects to Alpiq, including the 100MW Cheviré site in France, which Alpiq acquired in January 2026.
This acquisition is fully aligned with its flexibility strategy and expands its presence throughout the BESS value chain, including development, construction and operation.
After the transaction is completed, Harmony Energy will maintain its independent operations and continue to use its existing brand.
The company’s team, business culture and current operating structure will remain in place.

Harmony Energy has developed 18 large-scale BESS projects with a total capacity exceeding 700MW, and has built expertise in developing, constructing and managing battery storage assets.
