Renewable energy company Alterric has been awarded contracts for all six of its proposed onshore wind projects, amounting to 242MW, in the May auction run by Germany's Federal Network Agency.

The tender was 2.6-times oversubscribed. The awarded projects are situated in five German federal states and scheduled to become operational in 2028.

Alterric, a joint venture between Aloys Wobben Stiftung and EWE, confirmed that the portfolio includes both new-build and repowering initiatives.

Four entirely new wind farms are planned at Apensen in Lower Saxony, Osterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt, Welsches Lied in Hesse and Durmersheim in Baden-Württemberg.

Two projects, Ebendorf in Saxony-Anhalt and Bentstreek in Lower Saxony, will involve repowering, meaning the replacement or refurbishment of older turbines.

Some of the projects will be developed in partnership with other companies, although specific partners were not named.

The inclusion of the Durmersheim site is notable, given the reported difficulties of securing permits and building wind infrastructure in Baden-Württemberg.

The region is known for its challenging terrain and complex planning requirements, which have made wind development more difficult compared to other German states.

Alterric currently operates more than 2.5GW of wind capacity and has a development pipeline exceeding 11GW, covering projects across Germany, Greece and France, BalticWind.EU reported.

The company’s performance in this latest round highlights its ongoing activity in the German renewables sector.

All six new contracts are part of efforts to expand both national and regional capacity as Germany continues to pursue its targets for increased renewable energy production.

Last month, Alterric commissioned its first battery storage system at the Oslebshausen wind farm near Bremen. After completing a trial period, the system is now supplying power to the grid.

Through this project, the company is widening its operations to include energy storage as well as generation.
