Eku Energy and NHOA Energy have announced the full commissioning of two utility-scale energy storage projects in the UK, one in Basildon, Essex, and the other in Loudwater, Buckinghamshire.
The projects collectively add 130 megawatt hours 9Mh) of capacity. They are aimed at enhancing grid support through balancing and ancillary services across the UK's energy network.
The Basildon project includes a 28MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 56MWh. This site is positioned near other power generation facilities, including solar and gas-fired stations, and will aid the National Grid's operations in this network location.
Habitat Energy will manage energy trading for the site on behalf of Eku.
In Loudwater, the 39MW BESS spans 0.6 acres of rural land with a capacity of 55MWh. The facility features equipment designed to blend with its surroundings and is traded by Statkraft Energy for Eku Energy.

Both projects utilise BESS equipment from NHOA Energy, with ESM Power providing additional infrastructure and systems.
NHOA Energy is committed to maintaining operations at both locations under long-term service agreements to ensure sustained performance. The completed projects aim to bolster energy security and reliability for electricity consumers throughout the UK.
NHOA Energy global managing director Lucie Kanius-Dujardin stated: “These projects exemplify how trusted, high-performance partnerships are essential for the energy transition. The delivery of both sites in parallel required close coordination between NHOA Energy and Eku Energy.”
In addition to these projects, Eku Energy has secured financing from NatWest Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking for a new 99MW/198MWh BESS at Ocker Hill in the West Midlands. Expected to be operational by late 2026, it marks Eku Energy's fourth UK venture in the energy storage sector.
