RWE and Google have entered into a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) involving the Crooked Creek Solar project in Oklahoma, US.
RWE’s inaugural solar venture in the state aims to deliver its entire 155MW capacity to Google, supporting its operations in the Southwest Power Pool market.
Construction on the Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County is set to commence later this year, with commercial operations targeted by 2028.
The initiative is expected to provide significant economic benefits to the region, generating approximately $24.3m in local economic activity and contributing $1.4m in state and local tax revenue during its construction phase. Additionally, it is forecast to create up to 250 jobs at peak construction.
RWE Americas chief commercial officer Ingmar Ritzenhofen said: “This agreement with Google marks an important milestone for RWE Americas and reflects the growing demand for affordable, reliable, domestically produced energy.
“Crooked Creek Solar demonstrates how strategic partnerships can accelerate new energy development while creating jobs, generating local tax revenue and strengthening communities.”
Once operational, the project is forecast to generate around $25m in revenue for McCurtain County, supporting local programmes, emergency services, schools and regional technology education centres.
Google Energy and Power director Will Conkling said: “Our agreement with RWE adds critical new generation to the local system, boosting the amount of affordable and reliable power supply for Oklahoma and the region.”
In addition to the Crooked Creek initiative, RWE manages the Boiling Springs wind project and has six more energy projects in development across the state, totalling 1.6GW.
This agreement aligns with RWE’s strategy to supply reliable and affordable power while providing community support in areas surrounding its projects.
Last month, RWE’s Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm delivered electricity to the German grid for the first time following the installation of its initial turbine.
