Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan achieves key milestone

Century Wind Power has delivered 21 wind turbine jacket foundations - the largest and heaviest ever produced for a Taiwanese offshore wind farm

Century Wind Power has delivered 21 three-legged jacket foundations for the 1GW Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan - the largest and heaviest ever produced for a Taiwanese offshore wind farm

Each foundation stands more than 90m tall and weighs approximately 2,000 metric tonnes.

This delivery is the first successful integration of an advanced hydraulic gripper system into the jacket fabrication process by Taiwan's local supply chain.

The hydraulic gripper system, essential for precise alignment and construction stability, reflects the high degree of technical capability achieved via international best practice sharing, design refinement and specialised workforce training, according to Hai Long Offshore Wind.

Since the jacket fabrication contract was signed in late 2022, the Hai Long project and Century Wind Power have maintained a close partnership. More than 20 Hai Long project personnel provided on-site support in various critical areas, significantly contributing to Taiwan's offshore wind manufacturing expertise.

The Century Group's companies and facilities, including local subcontractors, played a pivotal role in the jacket fabrication.

Century Wind Power used the Twin Tower - the world's first open-air heavy lifting facility - for assembling extra-large offshore wind foundations.

Hai Long CEO and project director Tim Kittelhake stated: “Our collaboration with Century Wind Power has been essential to the project’s progress and is a testament to the strength and reliability of Taiwan’s local supply chain. It also demonstrates that Taiwan is capable of supporting the nation’s offshore wind ambitions and continues to attract investment in complex, large-scale infrastructure.”

The Hai Long project, which delivered its first green electricity to Taipower's grid in June 2025, aims for full grid connection by 2026. It is set to become Taiwan's first offshore wind farm with a capacity surpassing 1GW, powering more than one million households with clean energy.

In August 2024, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs awarded five wind farm projects totalling 2.7GW with capacity allocations in its latest round 3.2 offshore auction.
