NHOA Energy has received a notice to proceed from Neoen for the Culcairn Battery project, a 215MW/963MW-hour (MWh) energy storage facility to be installed in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
The project will be delivered through an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract in partnership with a joint venture (JV) comprising Equans Solar & Storage and Bouygues Construction Australia.
The Culcairn Battery project will be integrated “behind the meter” at Neoen’s existing 440MW-peak (MWp) Culcairn Solar Farm, forming a hybrid plant that includes a battery energy storage system (BESS).
The hybrid configuration is designed to enable the integration of renewable energy and improve stability across Australia’s National Electricity Market.

NHOA Energy’s appointment follows its earlier delivery of Neoen’s Blyth Battery, a 238.5MW/477MWh facility in South Australia that has been operational since early 2025.
NHOA Energy’s scope of work reflects its expertise in hybrid systems that integrate energy storage, renewable energy sources and conventional generation assets.
The company states that multi-technology control and hybrid plant implementation are core areas of competence developed through various projects globally.
The project represents the next phase of collaboration between Neoen and NHOA Energy in large-scale battery infrastructure in Australia.

In March this year, NHOA Energy secured two BESS projects in Italy with a combined stored capacity of approximately 600MWh and a power output of 90MW.
