Ørsted has reached a milestone at the Greater Changhua offshore wind project in Taiwan by completing the installation of all the turbines at the 920MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 projects.

Located 35–60km from Changhua County, the project consists of 66 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14MW.

Offshore construction commenced in February 2025, with Siemens Gamesa beginning turbine installation in April last year using Cadeler’s Wind Maker vessel.

Greater Changhua 2b and 4 is said to be the first offshore wind project in the region to deliver renewable power to Ørsted’s corporate customer under a power purchase agreement signed in 2020.

The project has supplied electricity to Taiwan’s grid since first power was achieved in July 2025.

Safety performance was prioritised throughout all phases of the project, covering vessel mobilisation, offshore operations and contractor selection.

The team has recorded around 131,576 working hours offshore with zero lost-time injuries.

The focus will now shift to commissioning, electrical system testing and completing cable works. Full commercial operation is expected in the third quarter of 2026 (Q3 2026).

Technical achievements include being the first regional project to use piling-free suction bucket jacket foundations and the global deployment of 14MW turbines with 115m-long blades. The turbine installation campaign concluded in just 275 days.

Ørsted Region APAC CEO Per Mejnert Kristensen said: “With all wind turbines now installed, we have achieved an important milestone in Taiwan’s offshore wind expansion and Ørsted’s 8.1GW historically large construction pipeline.”

Ørsted Greater Changhua offshore wind farms managing director Jayaram Naidu said: “Completing the offshore wind turbine installation for a 920MW project within a single installation season is a significant achievement, particularly given the short weather window and challenging sea conditions in the Taiwan Strait.

“It reflects our disciplined execution, rigorous risk management, and close coordination across marine operations, logistics and installation planning, all underpinned by a strong safety culture.”

In December 2025, Ørsted’s offshore wind farm, Borkum Riffgrund 3, began power generation and supplied its first electricity to the German grid.
