The UK government, led by Tech Minister Kanishka Narayan, has announced a £10 million fund to accelerate semiconductor innovation, aiming to deliver significant benefits for the energy sector. This investment will fast-track the development of advanced chip technologies designed to improve energy efficiency and support clean power systems across the UK.

With semiconductors playing a crucial role in renewable energy systems - from power conversion in wind turbines and solar panels to grid management and electric vehicles - this funding will help British companies innovate in these vital areas.

Projects funded through the Innovate UK program include energy-efficient semiconductor devices that could extend battery life and reduce energy consumption in transport and industrial sectors.

By enhancing semiconductor capabilities, the fund supports the UK’s broader clean energy goals, contributing to more reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure crucial for meeting the government’s Clean Power 2030 targets.

This investment strengthens the domestic semiconductor supply chain, reducing dependence on global imports and ensuring the technology backbone needed for the UK’s transition to net zero emissions and clean electricity growth.
