EDF Energy has agreed to National Grid ESO’s request to slash output from its Sizewell B nuclear plant. The energy distributor says this will help balance the UK grid, as a result of lower electricity demand following the initial Covid-19 outbreak. A spokesperson told Reuters: “EDF has agreed with the Grid to halve output from the Sizewell B power station in Suffolk until September 24, a deal which helps minimise the cost to consumers of ensuring system stability.”

The Government of India has decided to extend the waiver on clean energy-based inter-state transmission projects commissioned before 30 June 2023. This decision was taken because the Covid-19 pandemic has heavily affected project timelines. It applies to solar, wind, and hybrid projects as well as storage projects.

ReneSola has secured $12.4m (€10.64m) in bridge financing for the construction of 19MW capacity photovoltaic parks in Poland. Funds from Eiffel Energy Transition Fund will help expand the company’s project development efforts. ReneSola Power CEO Yumin Liu said: “Despite ongoing challenging macro conditions related to Covid-19, we have begun the construction of the 19MW solar projects in Poland.”

Uzbekistan has wrapped up the modernisation of Kadyrinskaya Hydropower Plant on time despite the ongoing pandemic. The modernisation of the plant required an investment of $27.6m and has increased its capacity from 13.23MW to 15.34MW. It will now have average annual power output to 124.4 million kWh, New Europe reported.
