French energy giant EDF has warned of nuclear output slump in 2020 due to the economic mayhem caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The company noted that nuclear electricity generation will dip to 300TWh this year, down from 375 to 390TWh, which was expected before the outbreak.

National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) has said that UK electricity demand may dip as much as 20% this summer due to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. Demand could plummet to 15.3GW in the high-impact scenario compared to forecast of 17.6GW before the outbreak, and from 17.5GW in 2019 summer. Peak system demand may dip to 25.7GW as against 32.1GW in the initial forecast.

Georgia Power has decided to slash the workforce by nearly 20% at its Plant Vogtle nuclear facility to mitigate the impact of Covid-19. The company expects the reduction to last until the summer. So far, 42 workers on the project had tested positive and another 57 workers are awaiting test results. 154 have tested negative.

African Union Commission (AUC) has teamed up with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to advance renewable energy across Africa in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The partners will work closely to accelerate the development of renewable energy including decentralised systems, aiming to enable rural health centres to use renewable energy to tackle the pandemic.
