The Indian Government has granted power companies permission to operate, maintain and conduct construction-related activities of the transmission lines amidst the ongoing lockdown. The federal government in its letter to the state governments said that electrical power transmission is an essential service for the continuous flow of power within and between states, and has been included in the list of activities permitted during the lockdown period, Mercom reported.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has decided to suspend its second major solicitation for 2.5GW of offshore wind in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The agency in a statement said: “While NYSERDA fully supports and is poised to execute on this authorisation, based on industry input and a careful assessment of New York’s Covid-19 status, we feel that issuing a near term solicitation would not be responsible nor advisable at this time.”

Nuclear power plant Plant Vogtle has confirmed that 130 of its workers have tested positive for coronavirus so far. A Georgia Power spokesperson said that the company is awaiting results of 29 workers, while 305 employees have tested negative.

Wind turbine maker Inox Wind has resumed operations at all its three manufacturing facilities located in the Indian states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.  The company noted that it will carry out the operations in compliance with all the safety guidelines mandated by the government authorities in order to protect its workers from the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.
