Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL) in India has temporarily closed three thermal power plants due to the poor demand following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Two power plans in Raichur district and one in Ballari district of the Karnataka were closed as high power generation and lower demand was destabilising the grid.

Omega Geracao has inked an agreement to buy a 50% stake in EDF Renewables’ wind farms in the Brazilian state of Bahia amid the ongoing coronavirus health crisis. The assets have a 182.6MW capacity and thee deal is valued at BRL661.7m ($118m).

India’s state-owned power company NTPC has secured approval to create a wholly-owned renewable energy business unit. The move is part of the company’s strategy to generate approximately 30% of its overall power capacity of 130GW from renewable energy sources by 2032.

Skipjack Offshore Energy, a subsidiary of Danish company Ørsted, has received approval from Maryland utility regulators to build offshore wind turbines that are over 800ft tall — nearly 200ft larger than originally proposed. However, the regulator asked the developer to work in tandem with Ocean City officials who fear that the turbines could disrupt tourism. Ocean City leaders asked the regulatory body to require Skipjack to locate the project at least 33 miles from the shore.
