Swedish wind developer Vattenfall has received planning approval from the UK government to build the 1.8GW Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farm. The original plans were jeopardised last month due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The wind farm will feature between 90 and 180 turbines covering an area of approximately 592 km² and could power up to 1.3 million households.

Japan is planning to close nearly 100 coal-fired power plants in the country by 2030 as part of its strategy to slash carbon emissions. The country has 140 coal-fired generators and it considers approximately 110 of them inefficient. The government is looking to close 100 of these in stages.

Spanish infrastructure builder Elecnor has received the construction contract for a wind farm in Chile. The company will be responsible for the execution of the Balance of Plant (BOP), which includes the installation of 44 wind turbines and the construction of substations, transmission lines and other infrastructure.

Rosatom has filed a licence application for building two new VVER-1200 3+ generation nuclear power plant units at the Paks II Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary. The Hungarian nuclear authority may take up to 12 months to review the documents and give approval. The original plant is built on the basis of the Russian-Hungarian intergovernmental agreement signed in 2014.
