India’s power supply deficit widened to 0.5% in the first quarter of current financial year, up from 0.4% one year before. This happened despite a drastic drop in demand during the Covid-19 outbreak and following lockdown. Approximately 291.8 TWh was supplied in April-June quarter of this year, against a demand of 293.29 TWh, according to data published by Central Electricity Authority.
Energy company SSE has urged the Government of Ireland to pursue a green recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. The utility outlined key policy priorities in its letter to the government, which include facilitating the deployment of 1GW of offshore wind. The proposal includes offering customers attractive decarbonisation options.
The total power consumption of China stood at 635TWh in June; an increase of 6.1% compared with the same period one year ago. However, total power consumption in the January-June period dipped by 1.3% to 3354.7TWh, as demand was negatively impacted in February and March due to the Covid-19 outbreak, according to data published by the national energy administration.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has wrapped up the construction of Unit 2 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. It has now handed control of the unit in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi to Nawah Energy Company. After construction, the focus will now shift to completing the operational readiness preparations, testing, regulatory inspections, and international assessments of the unit.
