French energy major Total is among several unnamed power companies to activate the force majeure clause on purchasing nuclear power from EDF. Last week, French energy market regulator CRE rejected the request. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in sharp dip in electricity demand and pushed prices far below existing contracts.

Plant Vogtle, a nuclear plant near Waynesboro, Georgia, has confirmed that one of its workers has tested positive for Covid-19. Georgia Power, one of four joint owners of the plant, has received negative test results for 45 workers and is awaiting the results for 19 more. Up to 9,000 workers have been assigned for the multi-billion dollar project.
UK’s leading energy supplier Ovo Energy has introduced $61m scheme to aid customers struggling to pay their bills due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to OVO, eligible customers can access the support from 8 April.
Saudi Arabian utility developer ACWA Power has committed a contribution of SAR50m ($13.2m) to support the country’s health efforts to combat Covid-19. The company stated that its contribution represents its commitment to supporting and collaborating with the governments and official bodies, who are providing their best efforts to face the coronavirus crisis and fight its consequences.
