Vaccine news
US: President Trump accused the US Food and Drug Administration of carrying out a “political hit job” against him by releasing new standards that could delay authorization of a coronavirus vaccine until after the November election. The guidelines are intended to reassure the American public any vaccine is safe and effective.
The Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed program asked vaccine makers to hold off filing for an emergency authorization of a Covid-19 shot until they can manufacture several million doses. Moncef Slaoui, Warp Speed’s chief adviser, suggested that authorizing a vaccine without being able to make it might be a “major disappointment” to the public.
Indonesia: Indonesia is seeking to secure vaccines from AstraZeneca Plc, part of its plan to procure doses from overseas while ramping up local output to inoculate its more than 270 million people. The Indonesian government seeks to get effective vaccines as soon as possible by securing deals with China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd. and the United Arab Emirates’ G42 Healthcare, but it’s also looking to supplement that by producing enough doses locally.

US: New York state will reinstate restrictions on businesses, houses of worship and schools in and near areas where coronavirus cases are spiking, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday, saying the severity of shutdowns would vary by proximity to the hot spots.
Hong Kong: Health authorities are considering whether bars should be closed again, according to a South China Morning Post report citing an unidentified person in the government.

US: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the White House is “in complete disarray” after Trump abruptly crushed talks between Democrats and Republicans on a fresh coronavirus economic relief bill. Pelosi accused Trump of “putting himself first at the expense of the country”.
Germany: Germany’s economy is gradually recovering. As theFederal Statistical Office announced, the manufacturing sector recorded an order increase of 4.5 percent in August 2020 compared to the previous month.
