Investment in China’s electricity sector is expected to total CNY750bn ($114bn) for 2011, recording a 6% increase over last year’s investment of CNY705.1bn ($107bn).
Approximately CNY450bn ($68.5bn) will go towards the construction of power plants, while the remaining will fund the power grid construction.
According to the China Electricity Council, the country’s total installed power generation capacity will increase by 90 million kilowatts this year to reach over one billion kilowatts.
China’s power consumption will reach 4.6 trillion kilowatt-hours this year, an increase of 10% from the previous year, according to The People’s Daily.
China expects to maintain a balance between its electricity demand and supply this year, with some regions experiencing occasional power shortages.
