US-based Oncor Electric Delivery Company will finalise a multi-million dollar contract this month with Weaver Construction to perform substation site grading services for its Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) projects in the US.

The substations will help energy generated locally from clean, renewable wind travel over 850 miles of new Oncor wires to reach Texas consumers, the company said.

Weaver Construction will complete dirt construction work to prepare around 20 sites.

“Our partnership with Weaver Construction makes good business sense because it helps Oncor continue providing reliable service at a competitive rate – and it’s another good example of how CREZ is good for Texas’ economy,” said
Oncor Electric’s CREZ project manager, Wes Speed.

In May, Oncor Electric filed its first application for a CREZ Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to rebuild its Bowman-to-Jackson transmission line.

The Bowman-to-Jackson transmission line project will be located primarily within Oncor Electric’s existing right of way. Additional CREZ CCN applications will be filed in September and October of 2009.
