Site C dam

Canadian electricity utility BC Hydro has awarded a contract worth approximately CAD$1.75bn ($1.2bn) to Peace River Hydro Partners for the 1.1GW Site C clean energy project in British Columbia.

Peace River Hydro Partners is a consortium formed by Acciona Infrastructure Canada (37.5%), Petrowest (25%) and Samsung C&T Canada (37.5%). It had been named as the preferred bidder for the project in November.

Under the main civil works construction contract for the dam and hydroelectric power project, the consortium will be responsible for building an earth fill dam, two diversion tunnels and a roller-compacted-concrete foundation for the generating station and spillways.

“Acciona is proud that our joint venture was selected by BC Hydro to build one of the largest infrastructure projects in Canada.”

The dam will be the third on the Peace River in the Canadian Province, the first two being W.A.C Bennett and the Peace Canyon dam.

Acciona Infrastructure Canada president Darren Sokoloski said: “Acciona is proud that our joint venture was selected by BC Hydro to build one of the largest infrastructure projects in Canada.”

Construction works under the contract is expected to last for eight years, during which more than 8,000 jobs are likely to be created.
