China Three Gorges has signed a contract with the Government of Mauritius for the construction of the Bagatelle Dam across the Terre Rouge River in Mauritius.
The dam will form a reservoir of 14.2 million cubic metres and, on completion, will supply water to Port Louis and other downstream regions.
Construction is expected to start in December with an investment of $112m, reports xinhuanet.com.
The project will be carried out by China Three Gorges’ subsidiary China International Water & Electric, and will receive soft loans from the Export-Import Bank of China.
