Mitsubishi Heavy Industries - Power Generation Machinery and Services

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is a world leading manufacturer of machinery and first-class services for the power generation field, namely development, design, construction, operation and after sales assistance. Incorporated in MHI's major product lines are turbines, boilers, renewable energy solutions, diesel power plants, distributed control systems and marine machinery. Through research and development we continue to ever increase the reliability and economy of our products.

GAS AND STEAM TURBINES

MHI offers middle and large capacity gas turbines for power generation, ensuring that worldwide customers' needs are met. MHI has manufactured and delivered more than 420 gas turbines and developed the world's most progressive G Series gas turbine with an inlet temperature of 1,500°C via our own technologies. A 330MW combined cycle plant with G Series gas turbine has successfully been in commercial operation since June 1997.

MHI designs, manufactures and installs an extensive range of steam turbines from small single-cylinder turbines to 1,600MW class large nuclear turbines for various purposes. Namely, MHI has a great deal of experience in over 1,000MW class turbines for both 50Hz and 60Hz users and for fossil fuel use and nuclear use. Our experience and continuous research and development efforts result in peak performance and highly reliable products.

BOILERS

As the world number one boiler manufacturer (11% market share) as well as the total plant supplier, MHI can give you the best solution for steam generation. Our boilers offer higher plant efficiency resulting in less fuel consumption, less infrastructure investment for fuel transport/storage and ash disposal plus a decreased level of emissions, auxiliary power consumption and water consumption. MHI's continuous research and development enhances the reliability and performance of our boilers.

WIND TURBINES

MHI has been engaged in the research and development of wind turbines since 1980 and since then MHI has developed the output of induction type and variable speed type machines from 250kW to 1000kW. To date, MHI has manufactured and delivered more than 1,800 units all over the world. The 2,000kW prototype machine is under development and will be put into operation at the end of this year. Based upon the worldwide experience of MWT-series wind turbines, MHI will continue to develop even better technologies that further optimize the exploitation of wind power, one of the major sources of clean, environmentally sound energy.

GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANTS

MHI constructed more than 50 geothermal power plants in Japan and ten other overseas countries. We have developed the Double Flush Cycle, a world leading advancement in geothermal power plants, and continue to establish and promote worldwide wind and water turbine plants.

DIESEL POWER PLANTS

The MHI KU series diesel power plant, for the 3-15MW range, is set apart from the rest due to the following advantages:

  • Low fuel consumption
  • Compatibility with low quality fuel
  • High reliability
  • Easy maintenance
  • Prolific supply record and engineering service

MHI offers overall engineering service built on its years of experience and an incomparable supply record for diesel power plants.

CONTROL SYSTEMS

MHI is a total power plant manufacturer. Our product range includes boiler, turbine and other auxiliaries. Through our extensive experience and expertise we have developed both software and hardware technology for power plant control, specifically our DIASYS-IDOL and DIASYS series hardware line-up.

MARINE MACHINERY

The main features of the UE diesel engine are:

  • The lowest specific fuel consumption available
  • High propeller efficiency
  • High reliability
  • Low quality fuel compatibility
  • Easy maintenance
  • Compact design

AFTER SALE SERVICES

MHI can provide various kinds of after sales services including life extension, parts supply, repowering and environmental modification. MHI's after sales service network extends all over the world.

NEW PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY

Photovoltaic power generation is a power source using inexhaustible photovoltaic energy. It is a natural energy power generation source that will never run out and is a substitute for fossil fuel.

The solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is operated at the temperature of 900 to 1,000°C using natural gas, oil or coal as the fuel. The SOFC, combined with a gas turbine, can attain a high efficiency of 55% (coal) to 65% (natural gas).

Integrated coal Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is a new coal utilized power generation technology that achieves higher thermal efficiency and better environmental performance for generations to come.

Biomass is called a life resource. Solar energy is converted in plants by photosynthesis and thus the use of biomass energy emulates the use of solar energy stored within plants. The historical use of firewood is typical of biomass energy.
