Electrical Moulded Components - Insulators and Bushings for the Switchgear Industry

Formed in 1973, Electrical Moulded Components (Pty) Ltd. (EMC) began making customised components for the medium and high voltage switchgear industry and today supplies all the multinational manufacturers such as ALSTOM, GROUPE SCHNEIDER, ABB, SIEMENS etc. An enormous range of insulators and bushings, DIN and specials are in the program and are available "off the shelf".

In 1987 the big break through of Cycloaliphatic Resin insulators for overhead lines was accomplished and EMC was awarded 50% of the ESKOM National Contract. Since then more than three million Cycloaliphatic insulators have been installed in South Africa. Wall bushings used in kiosks and transformer bushings for distribution transformers also play a very large part in the EMC manufacturing program with some 25,000 bushings produced monthly in voltages up to 33kV.

APPARATUS BUSHINGS

A comprehensive range of 250A, 400A and 630A DIN and ANSI plug bushings to customer design. Available with capacitive pick up for voltage readout or neon indicator.

INDOOR EPOXY RESIN BUSHINGS

Wall, panel, cablebox, monoblock and flameproof. High and low voltage / current, we have a bushing to suit you.

INDOOR INSULATORS

A comprehensive range of indoor insulators, both DIN and off standard, are available in voltages up to 48kV.

SWITCHGEAR AND CUSTOM MOULDINGS

EMC manufactures components for almost all the international manufacturers and their subsidiaries and partners across the globe. All tooling is manufactured in house. Our fully equipped tool room has the capability which includes the latest CAD/CAM equipment and our 20 year plus experience is at the disposal of our clients. Materials used are varied epoxies of cycloaliphatics, bisphenols and novalac resins. We also have various presses up to 400t for compression moulding of phenolics, ureas and DMC components.

CYCLOALIPHATIC RESIN INSULATORS

A complete range of overhead line insulators for distribution voltages up to 145kV are manufactured using the latest equipment and technology. Pin, linepost, station-post, tie-top, clamp-top etc. These insulators are used in all climates be they desert, wet or dry, high altitude or coastal. Utilities and railways are finding cost savings and line reliability are a feature of these insulators. Innovative insulators for surge arrestors and drop-out fuse cut-outs are becoming increasingly popular.

CYCLOALIPHATIC RESIN BUSHINGS

Our range of cycloaliphatic resin bushings include:

• Novel wall bushings in voltages up to 44kV and 2,000A. These are ideal for outdoor breaker applications (kiosks) in sub-stations. An internal screw-on flange is available to hold a ring CT
• Angled transformer bushings up to 33kV. No more gussetts or turrets on the tank. Ideal for phase spacing and space saving
• For retro fitting on reclosers and sectionalisers we manufacture a range of specialised bushings suitable to replace obsolete ceramic units
• Low voltage bushings up to 6,500A. Five custom bushings

COMPOSITE INSULATORS

Polymeric composite insulators, suspension tension and line post, are manufactured using either EPDM or silicone rubber in voltages from 15kV to 145kV.

INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS

The company presently exports to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Norway, Sweden, Finland, America, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Egypt, The Middle East, Brazil and most of the neighbouring Southern African countries below the Equator. EMC currently employs approximately 130 people, working 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. We have a large, modern and comprehensive tool room. All tooling is made at a vastly reduced rate to that of European tool rooms giving us an edge when new developments are planned by our clients as start-up costs are kept to a minimum.
