Turbine servicing company Deutsche Windtechnik has signed a long-term agreement with Leeward Renewable Energy covering 564 turbines in the US.

A statement by Deutsche Windtechnik said it will be servicing Mitsubishi wind turbine generators for the first time. Nearly half of all Mitsubishi 1000 and Mitsubishi 1000A wind turbines are located at five Leeward wind farms, covered by the agreement.

These wind farms are Caprock and Aragonne Mesa in New Mexico, Buena Vista in California, Sweetwater in Texas and Cedar Creek in Colorado.

Deutsche Windtechnik CEO Melf Lorenzen said: “These new agreements are an important milestone for our US business unit as we continue to expand our service into new states.

“At the same time, we are delighted to be entrusted with a new wind turbine technology on such a large scale.”

With an installed capacity of 336MW, Sweetwater and Cedar Creek wind farms are the largest of the five.

Under the agreement, work will be carried out in various phases over two months. The company will first start with Sweetwater 4A in Texas this month.

For this contract the company will hire more than 115 additional employees and will set up service offices, use a broader stock of tooling and acquire service vehicles.

Last year, Deutsche Windtechnik signed a service agreement with Leeward Renewable Energy for 81 Siemens turbines in Texas.
