Gas was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of contracts for the month, accounting for 26 contracts and a 66.7% share, followed by Oil with nine contracts and a 23.1% share. Coal stood in third place with four contracts and a 10.3% share.

Looking at global power contracts activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the third position in terms of number of contracts during September 2020 with a 12.8% share.

The proportion of contracts by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 20 contracts and a 52.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 21.1% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 15.8% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 7.9% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 2.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal contracts activity in September 2020

Comparing contracts activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 14 contracts and a share of 36.8% during September 2020, followed by Europe with 11 contracts and a 28.9% share and North America with seven contracts and an 18.4% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with six contracts and a 15.8% share.

  1. Taiwan Power (Taiwan): 6,500MW from one contract
  2. Hin Kong Power (Thailand): 1,400MW from one contract

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. CTCI (Taiwan) and General Electric International (United States): 6,500MW from one contract
  2. SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction (China): 3,320MW from two contracts
  3. Mitsubishi Power (Japan): 1,400MW capacity from one contract.
