US-based SolarWindow Technologies has signed an agreement with Triview Glass Industries for the production of commercial-scale, electricity-generating glass coatings.

Commercial buildings in the US currently consume around 40% of electricity generated in the country. This volume of consumption could be reduced by applying transparent SolarWindow electricity-generating liquid coatings to glass surfaces.

An independently-validated engineering model for a 50-storey building revealed potential energy demand reductions by 30%-50%.

SolarWindow president and CEO John Conklin said: “We have long awaited the opportunity to integrate SolarWindow technologies into commercial-scale production, and I believe that our agreement with Triview puts us well on that path.”

The company previously applied its electricity-generating coatings to Triview's autoclave system for window glass lamination at a facility in the US.

During the process, glass modules layered with SolarWindow coatings faced extremely high temperatures and pressures.
