Global technology solutions provider Voith is set to carry out research focusing on the modernisation of existing large hydropower plants in Argentina in collaboration with the National University of La Plata (UNLP).
As part of the deal, Voith has agreed to provide its knowledge and expertise in hydropower to the UNLP, which will conduct an uprate study in the hydroelectric system currently existing in the country. The study will help provide the Argentine Government with information regarding the potential of improvements that could be utilised for the plants.

In addition, the partnership project is expected to help increase the energy output and develop local professional expertise with regard to the best practices in terms of hydroelectric energy uprates in Argentina.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between the parties.
Voith Hydro's president and choef executive officer (CEO) Uwe Wehnhardt said: “We are glad to be working with the National University of La Plata and to be able to contribute to the development of a clean, renewable future for Latin America.”
According to the company, plant modernisations are expected to be carried out with an aim to revamp equipment to its original condition; improve service life, power generation and system reliability; and reduce a plant’s maintenance costs.
