UK-based company Renewable Energy Systems (RES) is announced as the operations and maintenance contractor for the 102MW Lamesa Solar Facility in Dawson County, Texas.

RES recently sold the project to Southern Power, a subsidiary of American electric utility company Southern Company.

The original developer US-based BNB Renewable Energy began working with landowners, local officials, and community leaders in late 2013. In the middle of 2015, BNB Renewable entered into a joint development agreement with RES to complete the solar project.

RES' development Americas vice-president Chad Horton said: "This project is our third and largest solar project in Texas, having already constructed more than 70MW in the state.

"In the middle of 2015, BNB Renewable entered into a joint development agreement with RES to complete the solar project."

"We look forward to working with BNB to bring more solar energy online in Texas."

With construction expected to commence this month, the Lamesa Solar Facility will begin commercial operation by the middle of next year.

Equipped with 410,000 photovoltaic panels, the new solar facility will have the capacity to produce enough power to meet electricity demands of nearly 26,000 US households.

The project will operate for up to 30 years and will provide job opportunities to about 300 workers during peak construction, as well as providing three or more full-time operations and maintenance (O&M) jobs.
