Eversource Energy has unveiled its Forward New Hampshire Plan, which includes new transmission routes for the $1.4bn Northern Pass project.
While the original line was intended to carry 1,200MW of hydropower from Canada through New Hampshire in the US, the modified plan will enable reduced transmission of 1GW of energy.

This modified plan will bury 52 miles of cable through the White Mountains, bringing the underground lines of the 192-mile route to a total of 60 miles.
Initial plans for mostly overhead lines were criticised over concerns that it would damage tourism, the environment and property values.
Officials from the company had stated that burying all of the line would be expensive and could raise the project cost to as much as $4bn.
The new plan is still likely to raise costs, according to Eversource Operations in New Hampshire president Bill Quinlan.

Besides lowering the transmission capacity and turning portions of the line underground, the modified plan also eliminates 400 power poles and shortens others by an average of 5ft to 10ft.
Once operational, the project will provide a reliable supply of green power at stable and competitive prices to businesses and homeowners in the US state.
