India-based power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured an order worth INR30bn ($495.9m) to supply supercritical steam generators to NTPC’s proposed thermal power project (TPP) at Darlipali in Odisha.

Under the terms of the contract, BHEL will be responsible for designing, engineering, manufacturing, supplying, erection, testing and commissioning the two 800MW steam generators and associated auxiliaries for the Darlipali TPP.

The key equipment for the project will be manufactured at BHEL’s plants located at Trichy and Ranipet in Tamil Nadu, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh and Bangalore in Karnataka.

The civil works and erection/commissioning of the equipment is expected to be carried out by the company’s power division in southern part of the country.

NTPC has proposed to build the power project across more than 1,652 acres of land with an investment of approximately INR128.5bn ($2.12m).

For the Darlipali project, NTPC secured coal linkage from Dulanga coal block, which has a mine capacity of seven million tonnes per annum (MTPA), and Pakri Barwadih block in Bihar’s Hazaribag district with 12.5 MTPA.
