Associated Electric has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 236MW of renewable energy from US-based independent power producer Tenaska’s wind project Tenaska Clear Creek Energy Centre.

Located near Maryville in Nodaway County, Missouri, the Tenaska Clear Creek Energy Center project is currently in an advanced stage of development and is expected to be operational by 2020.

The project is being built with an investment of nearly $300m and will feature approximately 120 wind turbines supplied by Vestas.

Based in Nebraska, Tenaska is reported to have developed nearly 10,000MW of natural gas-fuelled and renewable power projects.

Tenaska strategic development and acquisitions group president and managing director Greg Kelly said: “We are excited to be starting a new relationship with Associated Electric, a relationship that will bring more renewable generation and significant economic benefits to the region.

“We look forward to completing development and construction of Tenaska Clear Creek and putting this project into operation.”
