The Dutch Government has opened a tender for the permit to build and operate a 1GW offshore wind farm at the Nederwiek I-A site in the North Sea. The site covers approximately 149.2km² and is located around 95km off the west coast of Texel.

Grid operator TenneT will connect the wind farm to the national electricity grid via an offshore substation platform with a 2GW direct current connection to an onshore substation in Borssele, which will also serve the adjacent Nederwiek I-B wind farm.

The permit application process evaluates bidders based on their project’s likelihood of realisation, contribution to the Dutch renewable energy supply, financial offer, and environmental impact mitigation, prioritising marine biodiversity protection.

The project is part of the Netherlands’ broader efforts to expand offshore wind capacity and meet national climate goals by deploying large-scale clean energy infrastructure in the North Sea.

To reduce investment risks and encourage wider market participation, the government has reduced the site size to 1GW and introduced relaxed tender criteria and liability adjustments.

These changes aim to attract more bidders and accelerate the project timeline, with construction planned for 2030 and the tender winner set to be announced in spring 2026.
