Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has secured a transmission project valued at $491.7m (Rs47bn) in the Indian state of Maharashtra to enable the evacuation of up to 4.5GW of renewable and storage power.
The project is designed to transmit electricity generated from renewable sources in Karnataka to major load centres across Maharashtra, including Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The project, titled Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4,500MW) – Part A, was secured through a tariff-based competitive bidding process.
The company will execute the project via the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission, with a targeted completion timeline of 36 months.
AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said: “Pumped storage projects are emerging as a critical enabler of India’s clean energy transition by providing the flexibility and reliability required to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid.
“The Satara transmission project will create a vital transmission backbone to support both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between Southern and Western India.
“AESL remains committed to building future-ready transmission infrastructure that enables renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability and supports India’s long-term decarbonisation goals.”
The scope of work includes 562 circuit kilometres of new transmission lines and 9,000 megavolt amperes (MVA) of transformation capacity.
The project will see the construction of a 765/400kV substation in Satara and a 765kV double-circuit transmission line linking Kolhapur and Satara.
It will also include enhancements to the Kolhapur pooling station and supporting transmission facilities.
These additions will increase AESL’s total transmission network to 29,739 circuit kilometres and its transformation capacity to 143,425MVA.
AESL reported that, following this contract, its transmission order book stands at around Rs850bn.
The company said the new infrastructure will improve connectivity between the Western and Southern power grids and enable the expansion of pumped storage facilities in Maharashtra.
AESL, part of the Adani Group, operates across several areas of the energy sector, including power transmission, distribution, smart metering and cooling services.
Last month, AESL was awarded an inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh, India, valued at approximately Rs85bn.
