US-based independent power producer PowerTransitions has completed the acquisition of the 1.24GW Roseton Generating Facility in Newburgh, New York, from a subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International.
The transaction follows an agreement the two parties signed earlier in 2026.

According to PowerTransitions, the facility adds to its portfolio of operating thermal power generation assets, with the intention of redeveloping them into energy campuses.
The Roseton Generating Facility, a dual-fuel natural gas plant, has supplied electricity to New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) Zone G since 1974.
PowerTransitions said the site’s size and existing grid connections create opportunities for further development including adding energy storage and new capacity to support the regional grid.
With the acquisition of Roseton, PowerTransitions now operates around 1.8GW of power generation capacity across eight sites in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM), NYISO and Independent System Operator-New England (ISO-NE) markets.
This is the latest facility to be added to PowerTransitions’ portfolio since it was acquired by Partners Group, a Swiss-based private equity company, in June last year.
PowerTransitions co-founder and CEO Sean Long said: “The agreement to acquire Roseton is a transformative step for PowerTransitions and a natural complement to the 323MW New York portfolio announced in June.
“Roseton is one of the largest and well-maintained operating power plants in the Hudson Valley, and its existing grid connections and site infrastructure present an exceptional opportunity to develop a multi-use energy campus at scale to support reliability in the sub-region.
“We look forward to working with the plant’s experienced workforce and the surrounding communities to ensure continued reliability as electricity demand grows in the region, while investing in the long-term future of new reliable energy assets on the campus.”
In July 2026, PowerTransitions closed the acquisition of five power generation facilities with a combined capacity of 323MW.
The natural gas-fired plants – Hillburn, Shoemaker, Massena, Batavia and Sterling – are located across New York and have supplied electricity to the NYISO market for decades.
