Ahold Delhaize and Rezolv Energy have entered into a ten-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) involving two of Romania’s major renewable energy projects.
The contract will supply Ahold Delhaize with 370GW-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity per year.

The agreement covers electricity generated by Rezolv Energy’s 1.3GW-peak (GWp) Dama Solar project in Arad County and the 300MW Dunarea East Wind Farm in Constanța County.
According to the companies, the total estimated output from these projects amounts to about 2,580GWh annually, with Ahold Delhaize set to receive around 14% of this production.
The supply of Guarantees of Origin to Ahold Delhaize will start once the projects reach commercial operation in 2029 and will continue for ten years.
This VPPA marks the first time Dama Solar and Dunarea East have secured such an arrangement. It is also the eighth virtual PPA that Rezolv Energy has signed across Romania and Bulgaria.
Ahold Delhaize Europe and Indonesia chief financial officer Lenka Duskova said: “We are pleased to support the development of these wind and solar projects in Romania, which will add new renewable capacity to the grid while contributing to a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.”
Dama Solar will cover over 1,000ha and is projected to generate around 1,800GWh of power each year. It will be equivalent to about 36% of Romania’s forecast solar electricity production in 2025, stated the companies.
The project also includes an 82ha area designated as a nature reserve.
Dunarea East is part of the larger Dunarea East & West Wind Farms development.
Both projects were awarded Contracts for Difference in Romania’s 2025 auction, covering 731.2MW of combined capacity among three successful bids.
Rezolv Energy CEO Alastair Hammond said: “This is one of the largest and most important corporate renewable energy agreements ever signed in Southeastern Europe.
“By committing to such a significant share of the output from these two iconic projects, Ahold Delhaize has become a key corporate investor in Romania’s energy transition.”
Rezolv Energy’s development portfolio currently spans 2.8GW across Southeastern Europe.
Last month, Rezolv Energy obtained up to $636.3m (€561m) in project financing to move its 1.3GWp Dama Solar project into construction.
