Europe’s largest private forest owner SCA has entered into a cooperation agreement with Swedish renewables developer OX2 for project planning for new wind power.
The companies aim to build around 1GW of new wind power in Sweden within five years. The new projects are expected to have an annual production capacity of nearly 3.5TWh.

Commenting on the cooperation, SCA Wind Energy head Milan Kolar said: “OX2 has huge experience with such projects, from the development stage to commissioned wind farms.”
Both companies have already identified a small number of areas that are suitable for wind power in Norrland county and have started work on developing four projects.
OX2 project development manager Hillevi Priscar said: “It is a strength to be able to work with such a competent, experienced and locally supported partner as SCA. OX2 and SCA complement each other and have a very flexible way of working, meaning we can make quick decisions.
“Together, we have an excellent background, in connection with other stakeholders, for the achievement of our common objectives and can contribute to the transition towards a 100% renewable energy system in Sweden.”

By GlobalDataSCA and OX2 have been successful individually in developing wind power. OX2 has contributed around 12% of the wind power production in Sweden whilst SCA owns 2.6 million hectares of environmentally certified forest in northern Sweden. On its land, 324 operational wind turbines were up last year, which is equivalent to 13% of Sweden’s wind power production.
